Acer Aspire One Internet connection help?

In my school, they gave out Aspire One laptops to the children that paid for it.. But it doesn't have a proper internet connection, it has the school intranet. When I took it home, I tried to go on the intranet, but it wasn't working! It said, Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. Help?
