I'm not sure if my netbook has a virus?

I have an Acer Aspire One with Windows XP. Yesterday it was fine. today it began to freeze every 10 minutes, I'd take the battery out and put it back in it would work for about 20 minutes then turn into a white screen and make noise. now I'm sure it's a virus but I need help on how to fix it :/ I appreciate it greatly
