GIMP 2.6 won't start on my windows 7!?

I just downloaded GIMP 2.6 on my mom's mini laptop and I'll start it up but when it gets to the fonts part on the startup box it just stops responding so I can't get into GIMP! I need it for homework due tomorrow too! My mom has an Aspire® One D260 Netbook, featuring Genuine Windows® 7 Starter 32-bit. It also has an Intel® Atom™ Processor.
